Moy Viaduct

Carillion was instrumental in developing a radical solution to preserve the last timber viaduct on a railway line in the UK.

The 120-year-old Moy Viaduct, situated 15 miles south of Inverness on the main Highland Line, had suffered extensive fungal attack.

Carillion proposed retaining the Class A listed structure by building a new framework within its structure. The work involved treating the existing viaduct and replacing timbers where necessary and constructing a new steelwork superstructure.

In the British Construction Awards in 2004, the Moy Viaduct won the Small Civil Engineering Project. It also received a Conservation Commendation in the Saltire Society Awards in Association with the Institution of Civil Engineers
